Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare for management of dredging operations
   • Access, interpret and apply management of dredging operations documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
   • Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
   • Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures
   • Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
   • Access and interpret geological and survey data
   • Access, interpret and clarify the dredging plan parameters
   • Communicate and coordinate activities with others prior to, during and on completion of the work activity
2. Develop the dredging operations plan
   • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders in the implementation planning process, ensure their effective contribution and gain their support for the outcomes
   • Select, identify and source the resources and equipment to be used for the implementation of the dredging plan
   • Develop and document the dredging plan considering the dredging operations parameters, the confirmed geological and survey
   • Identify training needs of individuals involved and develop training plans Prepare and present the dredging plan budget
3. Implement, monitor and adjust the dredging operations plan
   • Issue, explain and clarify the dredging plan to team members and others involved, and ensure its safe, effective and efficient implementation
   • Provide timely ongoing support and advice to those implementing the dredging plan
   • Ensure that the dredge area is correctly marked out
   • Ensure written records and reports are maintained and issued
   • Monitor the dredging performance/outcomes against the dredge plan expectations and the budget
   • Resolve variances in consultation with relevant stakeholders and issue instructions for adjustments to the plan

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant legislation, documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of managing dredging operations including:

identifying the relevant information and scope of the work necessary to meet the required outcomes

interpreting and applying operational performance data

identifying viable options and selecting options that best meet the required outcomes

interpreting and applying geological and survey data

selecting and assigning plant, equipment, resources and operational techniques

works effectively with others to undertake and complete managing dredging operations that meets all of the required outcomes including:

complying with written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

providing leadership by communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

communicating clearly and concisely with others to resolve coordination requirements prior to commencing and during work activities

identifying the training needs of others and preparing training plans

demonstrates completion of managing dredging operations that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

developing, initiating and administering dredging plans, using dredging parameters

assessing and prioritising implementation processes

developing and reviewing operating procedures relating to dredging operations

monitoring dredging operations and making adjustments to the work plan if/when required

writing reports to communicate procedural activity, breach or inadequacies to procedure and review process
