Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant legislation, documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of managing dredging operations including:

identifying the relevant information and scope of the work necessary to meet the required outcomes

interpreting and applying operational performance data

identifying viable options and selecting options that best meet the required outcomes

interpreting and applying geological and survey data

selecting and assigning plant, equipment, resources and operational techniques

works effectively with others to undertake and complete managing dredging operations that meets all of the required outcomes including:

complying with written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

providing leadership by communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

communicating clearly and concisely with others to resolve coordination requirements prior to commencing and during work activities

identifying the training needs of others and preparing training plans

demonstrates completion of managing dredging operations that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

developing, initiating and administering dredging plans, using dredging parameters

assessing and prioritising implementation processes

developing and reviewing operating procedures relating to dredging operations

monitoring dredging operations and making adjustments to the work plan if/when required

writing reports to communicate procedural activity, breach or inadequacies to procedure and review process


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of managing dredging operations through:

the organisation and site requirements and procedures for:

work, health and safety

quality control, communications and statutory compliance

applying hazard identification and risk management processes

identifying and managing environmental issues, risks and controls

identifying and applying emergency response and evacuation/disaster planning processes and techniques

managing resources, plant and equipment within capabilities and limitations

reporting and recording on outcomes of the dredging operations

geological and survey data

pit development options and procedures

roles and responsibilities of relevant personnel involved the implementation of themine design systems

team leadership techniques including:

roles and responsibilities or personnel

work planning and work monitoring methods

recording and reporting systems

questioning and active listening

consultation and coaching techniques
